Concept of Recognition Recognition in international law refers to the formal acknowledgment by a state or international body that an entity (state or government) exists and possesses legal status under international law. This acknowledgment does not create the entity but affirms its existence, sovereignty, and legitimacy . Core Idea of Recognition Recognition is a political and legal act rather than a strict legal requirement. It determines whether a new state or government can interact in the international community .
