French law •      Roman law was in practice in France before the collapse of Western Roman Empire in 476 A.D. •      However, Roman law was in practice after the collapse of the empire. •        In 506 A.D. Spread of Common Law Introduction    Two groups of former British colonies: • The first group: comprises those territories where political and legal institutions were in early stage. Eg.  Australia, New Zealand and North America. • The common law of new comers applied automatically.
